In this new version, Jason Momoa plays the titular barbarian warrior. While his acting isn’t particularly impressive here — he’s much better as Khal Drogo in the HBO series Game of Thrones — his physique and good looks are very impressive, which will go far with the ladies and some men.Watch Conan the Barbarian Movie Online
The plot is straightforward: Conan as a child sees his father murdered and village destroyed, all by the ruthless warlord Khalar Zym.  Fast-forward to sword-swinging, muscle-flexing Conan, who fights men, monsters and dark magic to exact revenge for the events of his childhood.  No doubt Momoa has a promising future as an action hero but he’d be better served by a character with a richer inner life. And like so many other movies heavy on 3-D and CGI-enhanced landscapes and effects, Conan fails to deliver a story and characters that have depth.
The one exception to that criticism is Stephen Lang as Khalar Zym. One of the gifts from Avatar, in which Lang played the hard-as-nails Colonel Quaritch, was putting an incredible character actor like him in such a high-profile film and reminding the world he exists. There’s no question Lange’s Conan the Barbarian character is evil — hell-bent on resurrecting his dead wife, becoming a god and ruling the world — and yet Lang manages to make us feel for him. If the rest of the film matched Lang’s performance, Conan the Barbarian would be one the year’s best. Instead, we’re left with a slightly below average, violent action adventure fantasy flick with a few entertaining sequences.
Conan began life nearly 70 years ago in the pages of the magazine Weird Tales. Before his suicide in 1936 at the age of 30, Howard completed or began more than two dozen Conan stories, 18 of which were published. Of all the mythical heroes he wrote about, including the likes of King Kull and Solomon Kane, Conan was the most popular. In the late 1960s, L. Sprague De Camp and Lin Carter, two established authors who admired Howard’s work, engaged in a massive project to organize and clean-up the existing Conan canon, as well as write new stories to fill in chronological gaps. This resulted in a 12 volume series that has been in print since it hit bookstore shelves in the 1967-68 time period.          Watch Conan the Barbarian Movie Online
Conan the Barbarian is designed to entertain both fans of the Howard stories and those who are unfamiliar with the character. The movie takes place some 12,000 years ago, during a legendary era when magic was real, monsters wandered the land, and the gods occasionally walked the Earth. Borrowing liberally from the official Conan canon, the film chronicles the barbarian’s early years, beginning with the sacking of his village and the murder of his parents, and ending with his vengeance upon his first great enemy. Elements of several Howard stories have made their way into the screenplay (penned by director John Milius and Oliver Stone – yes, that Oliver Stone). Fans will particularly notice similarities to “The Thing in the Crypt”, “The Elephant Tower”, “Queen of the Black Coast”, and “A Witch Shall Be Born.”             To View The Full HD : free movies online for free
Milius’ greatest success with Conan the Barbarian was creating an entirely new and believable world. The settings are spectacular, the special effects are low key but effective, and the costumes and accoutrements have the proper feel for the era. In short, Conan’s land, a lavishly detailed, long-ago place, feels as real as modern-day New York City. It’s the kind of world where high adventure, magical intrigue, and heroic battles can take place without ever threatening our suspension of disbelief. Milius may have made some mistakes in his approach to Conan, but this is not one of them.

If nothing else, "Conan" deserves respect for having the balls to quote Nietzsche at the beginning of the film. A sword and sorcery film that doesn't go for the easy and obvious option of extreme cheese is very rare. Indeed, Conan the Destroyer, this film's mutant half-sibling, falls into that very trap. Having set this curiously ambitious standard, Conan veers wildly from pole to pole. Visually, the film is very impressive. The desert landscapes of Spain; Thulsa Doom's intimidating temple; the party to end all parties and Conan's rippling muscles are all pluses. Basil Poledouris's score is excellent. But there are times when the film is just silly. Sandahl Bergman's endless cries of "Do you want to live forever?" are a needless modernistic touch and always sound rubbish. Witness when she comes back from Valhalla at the end to save Conan's ample butt from being wasted. The film's silliest moment, though, is ultimately its greatest. A sublime moment that encapsulates everything about this film: brute strength and insanely cruddy dialogue. Conan, asked by a wise Warrior master to describe "what is best in life" philosophises: "Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of the women". What self-respecting Republican could want more?

I hated this movie when I first saw it in a theater upon its initial release in the spring of 1982. I almost walked out on it in disgust. I *did* step out in the lobby and smoke a cigarette in the middle of the movie, but I went back and suffered through the rest of it.
I hate it even more now that I have another relatively FAITHFUL adaptation of a classic work of heroic fantasy -- _The Lord of the Rings_ -- to compare it to. The people who made that movie actually *respected* the original source material a little bit, and actually *tried* to tell somewhat the same story.
I blame writer-director John Milius primarily. He has done a lot of other very fine things, but he sure fouled up here. My impression is that what he *really* wanted to do was make a movie about the historical Genghis Khan and the Mongols, which would have been a perfectly okay thing to do, but they wouldn't give him the money for that, so he just grafted or spliced the name "Conan" onto his (Milius') pet Mongol story.
